Picture yourself and your crew sailing off sunny Florida in December and a breeze catching your sails.
This could be you if you raise at least $15,000* or more at a 2019 Leukemia Cup Regatta by November 1, 2019. Participants who meet this fundraising criteria will receive an invitation to join us at the 2019 Fantasy Sail, which will take place December 6 - 8, 2019 at the Pink Shell Resort and Offshore Sailing School in Fort Myers, FL. Fantasy Sail will feature an exciting weekend of fun activities, as well as get an update on the progress The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is making in accelerating cancer cures and improving the quality of life for patients and their families. We'll honor the top national fundraising event with the Jobson Cup, and recognize the top fundraising individuals and teams, with the top fundraising team receiving the Robert Edward Maher Memorial Trophy. The first Maher Trophy was presented in 2018 to Donald and Margaret Steiner, who participated in the 2018 Rhode Island Leukemia Cup and raised over $130,000.
The 2018 Fantasy Sail weekend included presentations by Leukemia Cup Celebrity Ambassadors such as:
- Steve Callahan, who shared his experiences being adrift on a raft in the Atlantic Ocean for 76 days, followed by a battle against acute myelogenous leukemia.
- Suzy Leech, member of the 1995 America’s Cup team and a winner of over 30 international Regattas
- Olympic sailors Annie Haeger and Luke Ramsay, who spoke about being married and competing for different countries
- Benz Faget from North Sails, who shared his tips for sailing success
The 2018 Fantasy Sail featuring sailing out of the Southern Yacht Club on Lake Pontchartrain, and an awards dinner at Southern YC co-hosted by Kyle Smith (a three-time America’s Cup participant with Dennis Conner) and 2008 Olympic sailor John Dane III (who competed at the ripe young age of 58); along with an opening reception at Acme Oyster House….and more! Attendees had the opportunity at the reception to bid on having one of our Celebrity Ambassadors their crew for the Fantasy Sail Challenge race!
During Fantasy Sail weekend, we'll also select the winners of:
